This solar panel presentation will cover product defect, construction defect, negligent maintenance, negligent installation, operator error/abuse, to name a few.

  • Installation process overview, commercial v. residential, etc.
  • The mechanical side of solar
  • Solar panel design – description of mechanical components;
  • Applicable mechanical codes, industry standards, UL requirements, and manufacturer’s instructions;
  • Potential mechanical issues arising from improper transportation, handling, and installation;
  • Potential mechanical issues arising from improper design (wind-loading, soil considerations, supporting structures, tracking systems, etc.);
  • The electrical side of solar;
  • Solar panel design – description of electrical components;
  • Applicable electrical codes, industry standards, UL requirements, and manufacturer’s instructions;
  • Potential electrical issues arising from component failures (wiring connectors; inverters; monitoring systems, etc.);
  • Potential electrical issues arising from improper installation and maintenance;
  • The legal side of solar;
  • Investigation (early notification, potentially interested parties, securing physical artifacts and electronic data);
  • Legal hurdles (waivers, exculpatory clauses, statutes of repose, comparative fault / contributory negligence, improper maintenance).
